TREASURY CHAMBERS,
26 January 1893
488 93 1528 Ver 30 JAN 93
Sir,
The Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury direct me to enclose for the information of the Marquis of Ripon, a copy of a letter from the Admiralty, of the 10th instant, proposing to give a Lodging Allowance, during 22 weeks of the year, to the Naval Commodore at Hong Kong.
My Lords, in accordance with the usual practice regarding Local Allowances, consider that the amount should be fixed in Local currency; i.e. in Dollars not sterling; and They would ask you to move the Secretary of State to cause them to be informed what would be a suitable weekly sum in Dollars to allow for the Lodging of an Officer of Commodore's rank in Hong Kong.
In the reply to this Letter the following Number should be quoted.
